THE ANNUAL MEETING. Th« annual meeting of the Board of Governors of tho New Zealand Instituto was continued after the Post went to press yesterday. CORRESPONDENCE. An application from the Smithsonean Institute asking for a set of the institute's publications on behalf of tho Calefornian Academy of Sciences (whoso buildings and collections were destroyed by the. great earthquake) was referred to the Libraries Committee with power to act. A similar request from the Department of Fisheries, New South Wales was agreed to, and a request mado for reciprocity in regard to its own publications. The Colonial Secretary's Department announced that the Governor-in-Council had appointed Messrs. J. W. Joynt and li. Tregear to be members of tho Boards of Governors. Mr. Henry Suter, Auckland, wrote stating that provisions had been mado by the Government for his writing a now edition of a manual of tie New Zealand Mollusca. The'timft allowed ■was two years, and the work was to be commenced in January noxt. A motion thanking -the Government for having seen its -way to put the work in hand was" passed. ■ OFFICE BEARERS. Office-bearers for the yeaT were elected as follows : — President, Mr. G. M. Thomson, F.L.S., Dunedin; treasurer, Mr. Martin Chapman," Wellington ; secretary, Mt. T. H. Gill, M.A., Wellington ; editor of the Transactions and librarian, Mr.' A. Hamilton, curator of the Colonial ■Museum; publishing committee, the president, editor, secretary, and Professor Easterfield ; libraries committee, the president, Professor Eaeterfield Messre. A. Hamilton, M. Chapman, and T. H. Gill. THE HUTTON MEMORIAL. The recommendations of the special committee set up to deal with the proposal of establishing a Captain Hutton memorial as published in the Post yesterday wero considered in committee and adopted without material alteration It was stipulated that all funds were to be administered by and under the control of the board. It was also agreed that regulatione should bo framed to deal with administration of the fund. PUBLICATIONS. The report of the Publications Committee submitted at the morning sitting yesterday was further discussed. Tn regard to papers -nhich seem to bo too lengthy or too detailed for publication in the "Transactions,"' it was agTced that the report should be added to by the addition of a clause giving the commit to© power to refer such papers back to the writeis with a Tequest for condensation. ,- The matter of publishing the proceedings of the institute in pajnpblet form vas referred to tha committee in orderthat it might be reported on nest year. It was decided to give the Publications Committee the right to determmo whether seiemologiea 1 records 6hould be published in the Transactions, and the committee was further requested to make application to the Government to have such icporta published in the Gazette. THE LIBRARY. Mr. C. C. Ross wroti stating that his work in reorganising tho library had been continued up to 15th September last, ,at which period it was approaching completion, but the Government could not see its way to go further. The library consisted of 5000 voluhmk, of which 40CO had been classified and catalogued- He desired to complete tho work, and applied for authority to do co. Tho letter was .received. , • .
