Yesterday President Roosevelt attended the annual dinner of tho Gridiron Club, an association consisting of the Washington correspondents of the principal newspapers. ■Senator J. B. Foraker (an ex-Judge of the Superior Court, who presented tho name of William M'Kinley to tho conventions of 1896 and 1900 ior nomination to the Presidency), in a violent and offensive speech, attacked Mr. Roosevelt, prophesying that his policy against groat corporations would cause disaster to the country. President Roosevelt, in tho course of an angry reply, warned Mr. Pierpont Morgan, Mr." H. H. Rogers (Vice-Pre-sident of the Standard Oil Company), and other representatives of trusts that if they were unwilling to accept the action of the Government, which was ready to protect rich and*poor alike, the time would come when they would find themselves face to face with a peo•ple believing they \vere v depri\ed of their rights and a mob which would not in tho least respect their riches.
