With tho Englishmen's score at 142 for five wick'eis, Page, who had batted well for his score ot 66, was caught by Williams off Downos. Curwen was the incomer, but at the second ball he fell a victim to the vigilance of Williams behind the wickets, being caught off Downes without scoring. 142 — 5^ — 0. Branston partnered Simpson-Hayward. He made two singles, and then lost his wicket in the same way. 144—6—2. The captain of the visitors came in, and at once got to work in rather sensational style. The three remaining balls of Downes's over he drove in tho air for 4, 4, and 6, making the 14 in three strokes. The next time he faced Downes he mishit one just over Graham's head at third man.
