SETTLEMENT OF A LABOUR DIS

The conference between the mine maagers and unionists at Broken Hill, New South Wales, on the wages question held a decisive meeting on the 22nd ult., and arranged everything satisfactorily for two years to come. The settlement of tho question induced a strong feeling of satisfaction throughout the city. The adjourned conference lasted till nearly 11 p.m. Officials from both sides took notes, from which th-a official statement was nrepared. The proceedings from start to finish weTe marked by a most friendly feeling", and though the discussion at various points was acute no animosity was at any tim* displayed. At the conclusion of the confeience a heaTty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Delprat for his conduct of the negotiations. Formal confirmation by the various unions is still necessary, but no difficulty is anticipated, th>2 men are thoroughly satisfied, and declare that the agreement will make for industrial peace for a good term. The managers also look upon the agreement with satisfaction, especially as it guarantees the absence of all trouble ior so long a period. Another meeting of tho conference has yet to be held, when the agreement will be presented, formally agreed to prior to its presentation for registration in the Arbitration Court.
