A NEW CITY WAREHOUSE.
FERRO-CONCRETE TO BE USED. Messrs. Kirkcaldic and Stains, Ltd., have entered into a contract with the Ferro-Concrete Company of Auckland to construct their new warehouse fronting on Jolinston-street in reinforced concrete. The plans of the new building, which were described in the Post some time ago, will not be altered except in tho matter of construction. It was originally intended by the firm to erect the building in brick with fckeleton steel. The new warehouse will be the first to be constructed in New Zealand of the material named. In Auckland at present a groin store is being built of ferroconcrete, but bo far no attempt has been made in this country to construct warebou&PK with it, though it is largely used on the Continent and in the United! States for buildings of all classes. Mr. S. Kirkcaldie stated that the original intention of the firm to build in brick and steel hnd been departed from because of the fire-resisting qualities of the new material. They already had evidence of the effect of a severe fire on skeleton steel and briok. As a quantity of tb* material to be- used in construction has to be imported, building operations may nob be commenced foT a few weeks yet, but tho contractors have undertaken to have the now warehouse completed on Ist October of next year.
