WELLINGTON RIFLE CLUBS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL REPORT. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the Wellington Rifle Clubs' Association on Monday next by the Secretary of tb.it body (Mr. C. H. Aamodt) states: — "The report for last year's, shooting meeting, which was held cm 26th December (Boxing Day), 1905, is satisfactory, and financially feo. The attendance of competitors was about the &anie as. the previous year, although I ami pretty sure had we known earlier than we did (21st December) that clubsmen would have been granted passes, thei^e would have been a few more present, .ivs it was there was no time to leply to many enquiries re same that had been received fiom intending competitors. Another thing that kept a few aw.iy was the Wanganui meeting coming just ai couple of days after ours, and which led to our only holding a one day's meeting so as to allow many of our competitors to go there. Notwithstanding this, the club has now a fair balance in hand, viz., £14, for its coming meeting and expenses in connection with same. The progiamme last year for a one day's meeting was a liberal one, consisting of four matches (14 prizes in each match), with three grand! aggregate prizes and teams' match (five men aside), and the total sum given in prizes ran into some £60. In addition the Licensed Victuallers' Association of Wellington (in which Mr. A. Smith, Cricketers' Arms, an old A.C. vet., and a good shot, took a great interest) gave a very handsome silver cup valued at £50 to be fired for, open only to shooting men of Wellington, including Upper Hutt, the main conditions being two wins in succession or three at intervals; first two matches, highest aggregate, to be fired for annually. Substantial donations to the funds of the association were also received • from the following : — W. H. Field, Esq., M.H.R. (patron), vice-presi-dents Messrs. W. A. Grace, F. J. Lissington, W. H. Balliuger, W. H. Tisdall, A. M. Hayward, and Messrs. Staples and Co, our worthy president, Dr. J. M. Mason, who has always well supported the association, and also been" present at | some of the meetings, being absent from the colony at the time. To the above gentlemen hearty thanks of the associoj tion have been tendered for their assistance and support, also to the press, Licensed Victuallers' Association for their handsome prize, Railway Department, and others. "The shooting was of a fine order, good scores being made in each match, and everything in connection with the meeting going smoothly (with one (-light exception at the beginning, viz., tho telephone communication being out of proper working orcicr). Rideman J. Burns (K.R.C.) won thb grand aggregate pri/.e, including champion gold medal (presented by the patron). Private G. ■Lacey (Guards) second, and Rifleman G. Hyde (0.R.C.) third. Rifleman J. Burns also secured first win for the Licensed Victuallers' Association Cup, with 149 points, the runners-up being Priv.it e Lacey and Rifleman If. Hawthorne (K.R.C), 144 each. The latter also won the first pri?ie (W. A. Grace's) in the first match. The Teams Match was won by the Opaki team by one point, aftor a good go, Karori Rifle Club No. 1 team second, Upper Hutt third, 'K.U.C. No. 2 team fourth, and Pet one fifth. Mr. Field, who has always been present at the meetings, attended in thf> afternoon, and presented thb ntfcjoi j>rize» to the successful winneis, complimenting them upon the. good shooting made and the fine prizes given, and mentioning the Licensed Victuallers' Cup that Itiiloniiin Burns had scored a win for. Mr. Lissington replied thanking Mr. Field for his attendance, and stating that clubsmen generally recognised they had a real champion in him (Mr. Field) for clubs' welfare and shooting generally. Lieut. -Colonel Collins, V.D., Captain C. 11. Turner, and several other battaliori officers, also paid a visit in the morning, while Lieut. W. Smith (Guards) kindly acted as range cfficer, all these being, outside military duties, enthusiasts in shooting. Thanks are also due to the executive committee, to Messrs. W. Judd (treasurer), R. Randell chairman, and the -auditors (Messrs. J. Burns and C. Trevethick) for the interest they still maintain in the association. As tho cdubs' meeting is always open to volunteers or any shooting man, and .shooting generally has taken on lately, it is fully oxpectcd that tho association's coming meeting will be as well attended as any previous ones."
