LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. ' PROGRESS OF BILLS. • The Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland Empowering Bill and Church Property Trust (Canterbury) .Bill were read a third time and passed. The Statute Law Amendment Bill (At-torney-General) was read a first time. 'ihe amendment made by £he House in the Fisheries Conservation Bill be agreed to was carried. The second reading of th© Wellington City Reclamation and Empowering Bill was agreed to without debate. (Left sitting.)

Sir Joseph said the following Bills would be proceeded with : —Government Advance to Workers Bill, Thames Deep Levels Enabling Bill, Firearms Bill, High Schools' Reserves Act Amendment Bill, Queen's Scholarships Bill, Offensive Publications Bill, Police Offences Amendment Bill, Adoption of Children Act Amendment Bill, JMotor Regulation Bill, ■Mining Act Amendment Bill, Aid to Public Works and Land Settlement Bill, New Zealand International Exhibition Bill, Public Revenues Bill (No. 2), Local Bodies' Loans Act x\mendment Bill, Soenery Preservation Amendment Bill, Land and Income Assessment Act Amendment Bill, Customs Duties Adjustment Bill, Defence Act Amendment Bill, Executive Council Bill, Town Districts Bill, Arbitration Act Amendment Bill, Juvenile Offenders Bill, Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment, Apiaries Bill, Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act Amendment Bill, Habitual Drunkards Bill, and 'Maori Lind Settlements Act Amendment Bill. The Friendly Societies' Bill would be circulated, and an Anti-gambling Bi!l would! be circulated in a few days, and he hoped they would p_ass the measure this session. H© would not say anything regarding the Bills which were before Committees of th© House. The New Zealand Loans Act Amendment Bill and' the Post Office Ajst Amendment Bill would also be put through. The Premier went on to 6ay that th* Government would make the Land Bill and the revision of the tariff th© two principal matters before the 'House next session.
