LOCAL AND GENERAL. * — The enquiry by the tramways traffic manager into the collision between tramcar 22, driven by Motorman T. Parker and conducted by H. Bowe, and car 36, driven by Motorman P. Barnes and conducted by G. Thomas, on Thorndona,uay on Monday evening, has resulted in the dismissal of Parker, while Barnes has been reduced to the position of permanent conductor. The Court of Appeal is to sit in Wellington on Wednesday next, to deal with the appeal list, included in which are the following cases : — A Baillie and Co. v. Arthur Reese; Robert Johnston. \ . Nehemiah M'Rae ; the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company v. Ellen Mitchell ; William Douglas Lisnar v. James Charles Dunlop and Emma M. Dunlop; in the matter of the Companies Act, 1903, and in the matter of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand (in liquidation), appeal by V. M. Braund. The flags on the various Consulates are flying in honour of the coronation of King Haakon, which takes place at Trondhjem to-day Mr. A. W. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., James Stewart was ordered to pay 15s a week for the maintenance of his wife and 5s for the maintenance of one of his children, flrsb payment to be made on 2nd July. In addition to this he was directed to pay £2 2s solicitor's fees within a months Mr. Stout appeared for the complainant and Mr. Wilford for the defendant, who realised that he had to pay something, but allowed the case to come before his Worship in order to have the amount fixed. A point of some importance to shopkeepers was before Mr. Justice TJennistoD at Blenheim recently. By requisition the shopkeepers of Picton were authorised by a Gazette notice to keep open tjll 10 o'clock on Saturday evenings, and the point in dispute was whether they were entitled to keep their assistants employed till that hour. The inspector contended that under the amended Act of 1905 the asistants could not be employed later than 9 o'clock. His Honour reserved judgment. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Christopher J. Bolstad, architect and builder, Lower Hutt, who was adjudicated bankrupt by the Registrar of tho Supreme Court, was held at the office of the Official Assignee, Mr. Jas. Ashcroft, to-day. The bankrupts liabilities were put down at -£233 14s lOd, and his assets £19, hit* creditors being the Taupo Totara Timber Company, £213 lite sd; Bank of New Zealand, £16 2s sd ; British Woollen Company, £3 3s; and ]?. R. Bust, butoher, Lower Hutt, 19s. In his examination on oath, bankrupt stated that his wife had £86 to £86, some of which she put into a house built in her name. The land cost £160 and the house £359. 'He got a £460 mortgage for his wife on the property, and he was of opinion she still owed a solicitor a few pounds in respect of costs relating to the property. He was bankrupt in 1897, and he assigned in Stratford about two years ago. He came to Wellington in November, 1904, and went to Uie Hutt in February, 1905, working there as a builder and carpenter for a while. He did not admit ho was insolvent, and disputed the debt of £213 10s 5d to the Taupo Timber Company. The meeting | then adjourned sine die pending the hearing of an appeal to a judge against the registrar's order of adjudication. Mr. Dunn appeared for the bankrupt and Mr. S. A.
