PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr. G. Fowlds, M.H.R., of Auckland, left Liverpool -for New Zealand, last Friday. The Hon. H. Gourley arrived from the South this morning by the Rotomahana. Chief Detective M'Grath, who had been seriously ill for some time, resumed his official duties at the Lambton-quay station yesterday. Mr..F. K. Warren, acting-traffic manager for the local office of the Union Company, arrived from the South this morning. At a special meeting of the general council of the centres of the New Zealand Accountants and Auditors' Association, held in Auckland last week, Mr. J. B. Heywood, Secretary of the Treasury, and Mr. P. Heyes l F.A.A. (Eng.), Commissioner of Taxes, were elected honorary members of the association. Dr. Ewart, wMo was to-day granted six months' leave of absence by the Hospital Trustees, will, during his visit to England make enquiries into- the working of hospitals there, and generally collect information that may be of value to the trustees and staff in administering the institution. The chairman of the trustees stated that Dr. Ewart had been granted leave on full pay in. consideration of his sixteen yeaip' service at the Hospital. Another of Wellington's old identities passed away on Thursday last in the person of Mrs. Robertson, relict of the late 'Mr. D. Robertson, the first curator of the now disused cemetery in Sydneystreet. Tbe deceased "lady, who had reached the ripe age .of 88 years, arrived in Wellington by the ship Alma, in May, 1857, and for nearly fifty years resided in the cottage so familiar to old residents and visitors to the aforementioned locality. Her husband predeceased her by some nineteen years, and she is survived by one eon, five daughters, fortyone grandchildren, and fifty-five greatgrandchildren.
