Mr. F. S. Dayman has been appointed to a cadetship m the Department of Agriculture. • Mr. Bullen and the Misses Bullen, of "Ihe Elms," Kaikouraj who are at pTesent in Wellington, will leave for Australia by the Warrimoo tomorrow. Lady Plunket, who has been in indifferent health of late, and was under treatment in a private hospital, is making satisfactory progress towards a complete recovery. The following are gazetted officiating ministers under the Marriage Act : — Salvation Army : Major H. L. Bickerton, Adjutant C. Davies, Ensighs R. Lockhead and H. P. Sharp. Central Mission (Auckland), Mr. A. Black. At the request of the Provincial Commander the following names' have been drawn from the list of officiating ministers — Ensign A. Greene, Captain W. P. Kenah, Ensign A. J. Marshall, and Major W. Winter. Mr. E. A. Eva, traffic manager for the local branch of the | Union Company, has been appointed to tlhe position of chief clerk in the Melbourne office of the company, and will leave for Australia, via Auckland, on Thursday next. Mr. D. Carter, who has been in the Melbourne office, is to join one of the New Zealand branches. Mr. F. K. -Warren, at present stationed at Christfchurch, Swill fill the position of traffic manager at Wellington temporarily. Mr. J. W. Leahy, whose accidental death at Mataroa was recorded in a telegram published in yesterday's Post, was well known in Wellington. He was the prime mover in the formation of the Wellington Naval Brigade in 1879, and at the last annual meeting of the Old Wellington Navals' Association he' was elected one of Uhe association's vice-pre-sidents. On behalf of the members the secretary has forwarded a letter of sympathy to the widow. We have to record the death of one of Wellington's early settlers in the person of Mr. Robert Maedonald, builder, wh* died in the Wellington Hospital lasb night, as the result of shock arising from a necessary operation a few- days ago. The deceased was a native df Roxburgh, Scotland, who arrived in Auckland l>y the ship Normaball in 1860, and has had a varied experience in several parts fit the colony. In Auckland, HokiHka, Westport, Nelson, Foxton, and for the last thirty years in and around Wellington, he has carried out a great many building contracts, and has always been noted for his good workmanship, his Home training having been of thft very best.
