EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL

FIRST .MEETING. The first meeting of the recently-elect-ed Eastbourne Borough Council was h«ld Yesterday afternoon. Tho Mayor (Mr. F. <G. Bolton) presided, and all the councillors «ays Dr. 'Mackenzie wer» present. The Acting-Town Ork (Mr. Avery) called upon the Mayo* to ngn the usual declaration, after which Mn Bolton was congratulated by Councillor Shortt on his election. Ho had' suggested that it would bo best for tho Harbour Board to control the wharf, and that reasonable terms should be made with : the Ferry Company. On tho, 'Mayor's suggeetion, a committee* was appointed to interview tho Harbour Board and report at next meeting. The wind-drift trouble was referred to Pending the approval of a detailed scheme to deal with tho trouble it was decided to purchaso a one-horse scoop to clear therbnds of sand. Tho wandering cow was next dealt with. A Bub-committee was appointed to contider tho cost of establishing a pound. Wood, Bannatyno, and Shortt; Public Works, Councillors M'Keegnn, Foley, and 'Howden; Bylaws, tho 'Mayor, and Councillors Shortt, Howden, and M'Kenzio ; Reserves, Councillor Bannatyno, Fleming, and M'Keeean ; Sanddrift, The Mayor, and Councillors Foley and M'Kaejjan. It was decided to invite application!! for the position of Town Clerk at & salary of £50 per annum, such officer to provide meeting-room and offico furniture. The next meeting woo fixed for Thursday, the 14tb inst. The question of the adjustment of accounts with the Hutt County Council was not finally . dealt with.
