NEW ZEALAND MEAT. •— AGOVERNMENT INSPECTION. STATEMENT BY MR. SEDDON. tPKESS ASSOCIATIOK.I MELBOURNE, 7th Juno. With reference to the decision of the War Office regarding the use of colonial tinned meat, Mr. Seddon says there ought now to be an opportunity for New Zealand to bring under th© notice of th© British Government and British consumers tho advantage of- having colonial meat — frozen, chilled, or tinned. Mr. Seddon has communicated with th© British Government, through th© Governor, and with the Hon. W. P. Roevas, High Commissioner. He states' that there- is no place in th© world where th© same rigid inspection of slaughtering obtains as in New Zealand, abattoir is under Government inspection. If there is the slightest sign of taint or diseas© the meat 13 condemned. Inspection and grading costs New Zealand £20,000 a year. The same care was exercised with tinned meats ; not only that, but the best rrfeats only were sent Home.
