« WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union was held last evening. The chair was occupied by Mr. S. S. Brown, and there were also present : — Messrs. D. D. Weir, L. B. Jordan, H. M'lntyre, F. J. O'Sullivan, W. Hales, J. T. King, N. Galbraith, W. King, T. A. Hunter, F. Alpe (hon. treasurer). The Auckland Union asked for a probable date for the Auckland-Wellington representative match. It was pointed out that tho date -would bo about the end of August or early in September. 1 A 'letter was received from the Buller Union asking tho Wellington Union to return the visit they paid in 1904. It was decided to inform the Buller Union that Wellington cannot see its way to return the visit, and does not consider it owes the West Coast Union a visit. It was decided to release the Wellington College and Civil Service teams from their engagements on Saturday week, in order that they may take part in the inspection of volunteers by Major-Gen-eral Babington. A protest was received from the Southern' fifth-class team against the win of Oriental A, on the ground that they played boys over the age limit: It was decided to ask the Southern Club to supply further particulars. Mr. Galbraith drew attention to lateness in starting matches, and also to the fact that players had gone on to tho field in other than club uniform. A Melrose player, ordored off the field in the Melrose-St. James junior match, was suspended until he appears before the union. - -The trouble between the union and the Referees' Association was discussed. As a means of getting over 4 the difficulty until after the meeting of delegates on Friday, Mr. M'lntyre moved that clubs should stand down next Saturday, arid that a match be arranged between the representative team which met Wairarapa and the next best team which could be picked in Wellington. He considered it would do players good to stand on the bank for a Saturday afternoon and see an exhibition such as would result frpm this game, and would allow delegates to fix up the trouble with the Referees' Association. After discussion the motion was lost. Mr. W. King moved that a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs. Brown, Weir, and Hales, be appointed to suggest referees for Saturday's matches, and that a letter bo sent to 1 clubs asking their consent to the referees^ suggested. This was agreed to. It was decided that the committee should recommend to the meeting of delegates on Friday that the Management Committee be given the sole potvtr of appointing referees. It is to be understood that this power shall aot be delegated to any body.
