» INNOCENT NEGROES HANGED. [press association.] • LONDON, 6th June. In connection with the Springfield (Missouri) lynching incident,- the Grand Jury report that the three negroes hanged were innocent), ihe Sheriff and police are blamed. The lynching referred to in the above message took place on the 16th of April. A mob took two negroes out of the Springfield gaol and hanged thtta on the. stathie of the Goddess of Liberty on the Court House building. A fire was then made under the bodies, which, were burnt Ito ashes! The negroes were charged I with assaulting white women. The mob afterwards returned to t!he gaol, and, securing a negro who was charged with murder, lynched him in the public square. The mob completely wrecked the gaol, and of a total of fifty prisoners all but six escaped.
