PERSONAL NOTES FROM LONDON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, 27th April. Mr. R. Heinitz, chief mechanician of the Telegraph Department at Wellington, reached London last week. Mr Heinitz has come to England with tho twofold object of visiting his relatives and of gathering all tho latest information concerning the most up-to-date developments in all branches of electric engineering. Mr. S. T. Silver (Wellington), who left, the colony about three years ago for South Africa, has arrived in London, and is at present engaged more or less on a sight-seeing tour, although at the same time he is interesting himself in the latest methods concerning steel structures. After leaving New Zealand, Mr. Silver went first to Johannesburg, where ho remained for rather more than two years, visiting most of the other South African centres of interest. Mr. Silver is anticipating the prospect of spending a year in 'kngland and a year in America, before again returning to ■New Zealand. Miss -Barnicoafc (Wellington) was a passenger by tne last trip of the s.s. Athenic from Hevr 'Zealand. ' Mr. W. J. Napier (Auckland), who arrived in London recently, travelled from New Zealand via the United States of America, crossing from New York to Liverpool in the White Star liner Cedric. His visit to London is mainly in connection with the Privy Council case which will shortly be heard here, and in which Mr. Napier is retained as one of the counsel., I have to 1 record with much regret the death of Mr. Alfred W. Smith, of tho Indent Department of tho New Zealand Agency-General in London. Mr. Smith had been for many years a member of the Agency-General staff. On Saturday last, a very quiet New Zealand wedding took place in London. Th,e bride- was Miss Marion Evans, granddaughter of the late -Mr. and Mrs. William Hickson, of Wellington. Tho bridegroom was 'Mr. Charles Morrison vM'Gilchristj of Claphani. 1 hear to-day that the date fixed for tho coming marriage of Viscount Kelburne, son and heir of' Lord Glasgow, and Miss Hyacinthe Bell, is the 29th ■■May, when there- will be a large gathering of the relatives of both families for the occasion. That New Zealand visitors are beginning, tp^ arrive in earnest is evidenced by the fact that so many fresh names are •registered, each week in the "Visitorial Ledger" at the London office of the New Zealand Government. It is announced that the late Mr. Thomas Purvis Russell, of Warroch, Kinross-shire, and of Bath, Somerset, formerly of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, who-, died at Bath on the 30th January last, at the age of eighty-6even years, left personal estate of tho total value of £257,677, of which £120,000 is personal estate in New Zealand, and £5921 personal estato in Scotland.
