OHRISTCHUROH, 16th April. Speculation was brisk at to-day's races, the totalisator investments amounting to £14,253, in addition to £1535 on tho "double" machine. The racing throughout was interesting. Cross Battery registered a very attractive i)erformance in the Great Easter Handicap, her time being tihe beet on record for the race. In the race for the Champagne Stakes, Ivanoff and Huascar were first to move, but with a furlong and a-half gone Kirriemuir was out in front, while Huascar dropped back, and Lady Landon was at the head of the second division. Maintaining her lead, Kirriemuir lasted long •enough to win by tihres-quarters of a length. Huascar came with a fast run and defeated Ivanoff for second place by a head. Lapland was fourth, and Lady Landon fifth. Time, lmin 15sec. Dividedn £3 9s.
