Ail agreement has been arrived at unanimously by the representatives of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, for settlement of the Murray waters difficulty. The limitation placed on the use of the water by 'New South Wabs pending the .establishment of a system of water conservation works lias been fixed at 220,000 cubic feat per minute, and Victoria is limited to 130,000 cubic feet. During the diy monlihs these amounts are to bo reduced. The- volume of water in the river channel at eastern boundary of South Australi-i must not he reduced below 70,000 cubic feet per minute. - [Tho settlement of the Murray waters question removes a, long-standing source of disagreement belvreen the Slates concerned. The river, which is the most important- on tho continent, rises on the western slopes of tl |c Australian Alps, and flows west and lwrth, dividing New South Wales from Victoria, for nearly eight hundred miles. It then enteis South Australia, and turning south reaches tha sea. by Lake Alcxnndrimi, forty-eight miles of Adelaide, after n total flow of about eleven hundred miles, during which it drain 3 270,000 square miles of territory. It has bean a perennial giiovance o r South Australia that the navigation of tho lower reaches of tho river has been /interfered with by the upper waters being drawn off by tho other State 3 for irrigation and mining purposes.]
