STILL MAKING A LOSS. REDUCTION OP RATES UNLIKELY. [RhBSS ASSOCIATION,! MELBOURNE, 23rd February. Mr.,Mllward, chief electrician to tho Paciflo Cablo Board, who is making his annual visit of Inspection, stated in an interviow that, roughly, tho Paoiflc cablo was getting about oiic-thlrd of tho business. If one-half was secured, the present loss would bo turned into a profit. Mr, Mllward mk\ ho did not think there was any likelihood of a reduction of rates under existing conditions. Ho pointed out that about 96 per oent. of tho mcßwges *wero in code, rach codo word representing about, four ordinnry words, so that the sender paid only about nlncpenco per word. Sneaking personally, Mr. Milward said ho did not think tho proposed "pooling" arrangement with the Knfltwn Extension Company would oventunto.
