The 1 twentieth contest between teanw representing Christchuich and Wellington began' this afternoon under pleasant conditions on the Basin Reserve. Canterbury has fourteen wins to its credit. Tucker was elected captain of tho Wellington team, but Sims beat him in the toss, and Canterbury had first turn with the bat on an excellent wicket. C. P. Blacklock kept wickets for the local team. The umpffes were Messrs. D. M'Kenzie and S. Lambert. The following is the order in which the Canterbury men will bat : — Sims, Ollivier, Lawrence, Callnway, Whitta, Orchard, Anthony, Bennett, Patrick, Frankish, Buxshall.
