ENTERTAINMENTS, ETC.

"THE DARLING OF THE GODS." ' From a spectacular standpoint the great Japanese play, "The Darling of the Gods," to be presented by Miss Maud Jeffries, Mr. Julius Knight, and Mr. J. C. Williamson's Company at the Opera House on Boxing Night, is said to bo particularly imposing, and to excel anything yet witnessed on the colonial dramatic .stage. The audience is treated to a series of Oriental scenes, remarkable for their variety and beauty. The sacred mountain of the perpetual snows;. the smiling sunlit river that flows at its base; the tapestries and pagodas and gaudy idols; the quaint bamboo houses; the strange birds and stranger people; the butterflies flitting among unknown flowers; the blaze of cherry orchards; the bloom of chrysanthemums; the whole outward semblance of the picturesque land that reposes under the shadow of Fujiyama. It will be most interesting to witness the portrayal of Japanese characters by two such artists as Miss Jeffries and Mr. Knight. The plans for the- first three nights of the season will be opened at the Dresden on Thursday morning. FULLER'S ENTERTAINERS. This popular company again drew a crowded audience to tho Theatre Royal last night. The honours of the evening were carried off by Mr. Will Stevens, who gained almost a record number of encores.
