', FAILING TO REGISTER I ' GASWORKS. I 1 [BY TELEGRAPH— PKES3 ASSOCIATION.] MASTERTOX, This Day. ' At the Magistrate's Court to-day Mr. W. P. James, S.M., gave his judgment in a case in which Walter Newton, Inspector of Factories, prosecuted the Borough Council for failing to register the municipal gasworks under tho Factories Act, 1900. At the hearing of the case, counsel for the defence argued that the Corporation was exempted from the provisions of the Act, us the Council was the controlling authority. The Magistrate held that the Corporation is on the same footirg as a private company, and imposed a penalty of 40s and counsel's fee 425. An appeal will probably be made.
