BOXING.

The Inspector of Police has forwarded the nocessary permit for tho boxing con^ test' to be held ttt the Opera House on Wednesday, the 20th inst., in which great interest is being manifested in -this city and in other, parts of the colony, tho Secretary of the local centre having received a number of notifications from members and officials of other centres bf their intention to bo present. Tho contestants, "Hock" Keys, of Sydney, and T. Tracy, of Wellington, are in hard training for tho event, which is for fifteon rounds. From a scientific point 'of view the display should be educational to young boxers, as Keys is acknowledged to be ono of the cleverest boxers in Australasia, and Tracy has a considerable local reputation as a teacher Of the "noble art." Two attractive six-round contests will be piven by amateurs, and there is a probability of Thomas and Gosling, tho pair that boxed such an interesting bout at the recent tournament, meeting again. The' Premier and Sir Joseph Ward TiaTe signified their intention to be present afe tho exhibition. The box plan opens ai Batkin's on Wednesday.
