POLITICA L NOTICE.

THE LAND QUESTION. The Lender of the Opposition yesterday gave notice to move the following amendment) to the Premier's proposed motion on the land' question : — "The failure of the Government to formulate a land pojigy, even with the report of the Land Commission to ataist them, is an evasion , of constitutional responsibility. This House therefore urges that Ministers should without delay bring down a Bill embodying their land pojicy, which Bill should include a' special piovision for extending to Crown teimnts holding land under lease in perpetuity the right to acquire the freehold, but with sufficient safeguards to prevent the aggregation of large estates, and should also encourage settlement by providing better conditions nnd more secure tenure for all settlers upon lands of the Crown." It is regarded as a certainty that this motion will be looked' upon by the Government as one of want of confidence. THE NEW LIBERAL PARTY. The fume of the New Liberal Party ,haa evidently reached "the other side," and its performances aro regarded with a considerable amount of interest. Last night a cablegram was received asking Messrs. Taylor and Laurenson to go over to Sydney and address a meeting there, and in addition the request was made that photographs of "the four" should be sent over for reproduction in a Sydney -weekly paper. ' AT 1 A.M. Very late last night the. Education Estimates came on, nnd the proceedings quickly become soporific. The importance of the subject failed to attract much more than a bare quorum, and the Premier lay back in his chair with his eyes closed nnd his bands folded over his breast. About one a.m., after the Premier had been silent and motionless for nearly an hour, Mr. Taylor aroiie. ■ "The position in this Chamber," he ! said with a smile, "affords a perfect illustration of the position of the -Education Department. The Minister in charge is 'fast asleep." Slowly the Premier unclosed his eyes. "Oh, no he isn't," he murmured, and closed his eyes agnin.
