Mr. A. It. Hislop leaves Wellington to-day on a month's visit to Austiulia. Inspector Ellison was a passenger by the Pateena, which arrived from Nelson and Picton this morning. Dr. Mason, Chief Health Officer, arrived in Wellington last night from llotorua, where hq had been on a visit for the benefit of his health. Captain Robb, of the' signal station, is nt piosent in a. private hospital, where ho is about to undergo an operation for tumour. The Roy. G. Bond, Pastor of tho Trinity Wesley Church, Newtown, who has been dangerously ill, is much impioved in health. Among the passengers for Sydney by thb h.s. Wimmera to-day will be Mr, and Mrs. L. Dwan, who are to visit Australia on a holiday trip. The Verytßev. Father Marion, Provincial of the Marist Order in Oceania, and the Rev. Father de Fineaux, Parish Priest of Noumea, will leave Wellington 'for Sydney by the Wimmera this afternoon. The Pi-tone Navals have elected Lieut. " Freeman (who joined tho corps early this year) to the position of captain rendered vacant by the transfer of Captain Archibald to Auckland. Mr. George Lambie, for seventeen years manager of the Union Steamship Company at Christchurch, was, on the occasion of his retirement, presented at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce with a purse of sovereign!?. Eulogistic references were made to the work done by Mr. Lambie, who left by the Wimmera to-day for Sydney. ; Mr. J. B. Mack, who has been a resident of Wellington for a number of years, and who is on the Customs staff, has been transferred to Dunedin, for which city he leaves this evening.
