Dr. Edith Cochrane-Brown, of Christchurch, who has been on a visit to London, returned to Wellington to-day by the Athenic.

Mr. W. Duncan, for the past eight years connected with Mr. C. Smith's drapery establishment, is entering into business on his own account. The assistants of the firm yesterday presented him with a souvenir.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson Potter were passengers to Hobarfc by the Athenic. Mr. Potter, who is one of the owners of the Federal Line of steamers, intends coming on to Wellington after visiting Sydney.

Miss Gertie Campion, late of the Pollard Opera Company, was a passenger from Capetown to Hobart by the steamer Athenic. Miss Campion who was accompanied by her mother and Miss K. Campion, is still far from strong. ' '

_o New Zealand as one of tho inspectors of the National Bank of New Zealand, arrived to-day by the Athenic. He is accompanied by Mrs. Houghton and three daughters. Mr. Houghton was in the London office of the National Bank.

Mr. James M. Fleming, for the last eight years accountant to Messrs. Badham and Biss, has accepted an appointment as secretary to Messrs. Turnbull and Jones (Ltd.), electrical engineers, of Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. Mr. Fleming's headquarters will be at Wellington.
