A SUGGESTION FOR THE HARBOUR BOARD.

TO THE EIHTOB. I Sir, — May Ibe permitted .through your paper to suggest to the Harbour Board that a chain fence be erected along its property — such fence to tie removed when occasion requires it — to prevent people falling into th© harbour? There can TJa ■no doubt 'that the recent wet weather ■has misled people at night when traversing about the wharf. A fence, say, of one or two chains, which can be removed for shipping purposes, would prevent people taking false steps at night, and .be aji ornament father -than otherwise, to the locality. It seems most peculiar that private owners of property aro forced to fence, yet the Harbour Board is allowed .to leave dangerous •openings without fences to the danger of the public. — I am, etc.. RED LIGBT. Wellington, 9fh August.
