FLOOD PREVENTION. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION] NAPIER, 9th August.

A conference of delegates from various local 'bodies to consider the question of floods prevention was held this morning. A resolution was <passed unanimously — • "That the Government be asked to pass an Act •forming a central River Board, comprising and amalgamating ihe existing River Boards Districts, the districts to be divided into wards of as nearly as possible equal rating valuo, each ward returning one marober or more, 'bha rating basis to be 'the same as now existing, with power to obtain loans." Mr. 'Lister, Chairman of the Clive River Board, said the Clive people were quite willing to agree to a central River Board, provided their interests were protected. 51t. Hates, Government Engineer, this afternoon visited Meanee for the purpose of ascertaining the approximate cost of repairing the main damage to the river bank at that place, and he will forward the particulars to the Minister for Public Works, with a recommendation that the Government grant a subsidy in aid.
