RUGBY. 'HOKITIKA v. WEDNESDAY REPRESENTATIVES. About three hundred spectators gathered on the Athletic Park yesterday afternoon to witness the match 'between the Hokitika Club and ithe Wellington Wednesday representative team. The weather conditions were perfect/ and the ground in good order. The visitors won an interesting game by 14 points to 3. The West Coast team proved far too good for local men in the forward .ranks but the backs were fairly well matched. Taking the play right through, the visitors had the best of the game, and they .had registered 8 points before Ihe game had been in progress ten minutes. The first .try for Hokitika was scored by Smith as the .result of a brilliant dribbling rush, in which Cedcrman, Wilson, and W'ado took part. Wado converted. Following this, Wado kicked a penalty goal, and 'then Wellington registered their first and only try, Marshall crossing the line. Before half-time, Smith scored another try for tho visitors. The second spell was almost wholly in favour of the Hokitika men, who were within an ace of scoring repeatedly. They only succeeded in adding one more 'try, secured by Wallace. Mason, Wade, and Smith were the 'best of .the < winners' backs, Tho forwards all played well. Read, Laughlan, and -Taylor snowed up well for Wellington. Mr. G. Clark was referee. The Hokitika team is to play a match against tho Athletic seniors at the Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon.
