THE WAR. SUCCESSFUL JAPANESE OPERATIONS. [PEESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received August 10, 7.20 a.m.) LONDON, 9th August. It is officially stated' at Tokio that Japanese marines landed at Imperatorskaye, 150 miles south of Castries Bay (on the north-east coast of Siberia). The guards fled inland. The lighthouse-keeper, was captured, but was allowed to continue on duty. When they first landed at Castries Bay the Japanese captured two bronze guns, ■with which they bombarded the fleeing Russians. THE PEACE CONFERENCE. WASHINGTON, 9th August. Preliminaries in connection with the Peace Conference of Russian and Japanese plenipotentiaries are proceeding slowly. CONVICTS AT SAGHALIEN. (Received August 10, 8.50 a.m.) LONDON, 9th August. The Japanese commandant at Saghaliep reports that convicts were apparently released before the surrender. He fears fliat they are likely to disturb the peace of the district.
