CHIEF SECRETARYSHIP FOR IRELAND RESIGNATION OF MR. WYNDHAM. COMMENTS ON THE RETIREMENT. [mess association.! LONDON, 7th March. Tho Promicr (tho Right Hon. A. J. Bnlfonr), has announced tho resignation of tho Right Hon. G. Wyndham ns Chief Secretary for Ireland— a nosition ho hns hold sinco 1900, prior to which ho was Parliamentary Under-Secrotary of Stoto for War. Mr. Bnlfour expressed regret nt tho resignation, which he oxplained was partly on tho ground of ill-health, but chiefly on thro ground of Mr. Wyndhnm's beliof thnt tho recent controversy concerning Sir Antony MncDonnoll's connection with Lord Dunnrvon's dovolution schomo had greatly impaired, if not wholly destroyed, the valuo of his (Mr. Wynuham's) work. The Promior expressed tho hone that Mr. Wyndham would soon be sufficiently recovored to mnko a statement. The announcement of Mr. Wyndham's resignation has been received at Belfast with satisfaction. In Unionist circles tho decision is declared wise, though it ia admitted that Mr. Wyndham gavo the best of Land Acts. Amongst, Unionists in London it is believed Mr. Wyndhnm's retirement will strengthen the Government's majorities, rccont divisions having shown defections, duo to tho Government's Irish policy.
