INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION. CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE PREMIER.
[BT TKLKORAPH— I'RBSS ASSOCIATION.'] CHRISTCHURTII, 6th March. On 13th February, when the Premier was in Chrislchurch, tho Mayor had a conference with him regarding certain matters concerning tho forthcoming Intcrnntional Exhibition, especially in reforence to a statement in tho Premier's letter of 19th Deccmbor, declaring that the Government was prepared to spend £20,000 on tho exhibition. This the Mayor explained to the Premier was intorprotod to mean that tho Government was prepared to lose thitt sum on tho project. The Premier said that was tho correct interpretation, and promised that on his return to Wellington the whole matter would bo submitted to Cabinet. Nothing further was heard regarding the matter, and, accordingly on Saturday tho Mayor lelegraphea to Mr. Soddon at Auckland,- reminding him of his promise. Tho following roply was received: — "Wo have not been able to dopl definitely with the exhibition matter, and are now awaiting information from outsido tho colony." The Premier adds thnt he hopes to bo able to givo full particulars within a fortnight.
