*. THE SUGAR CONVENTION. DEBATE IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. [press association.] LONDON, 28th February. In the Houso of Commons, Mr. H. E. Kcariey, Liberal number for Devonport, uioved an amendment to tlio Address-in-R«ply favouring on onrfy denunciation of the Sugirr Convention. Mr. Chomberlain defended tho Convention. He said Uio Opposition was only trying to make political capital out of the subject, which was absolutely irrelevant to tho fiscal controversy. Tho Convention, Mr. Chamberlain ndded, was really an obstaclo to giving moderate preference to stimulate tho production of colonial sugar, but he hoped this would be altered when the Convention was revised.
