AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

SPORTS MEETING AT THE BASIN RESERVE. A'leasant weather was responsible for a large attendance at the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club's sports meeting, which took place on the Basiu Reserve this afternoon. By 2 o'clock, when the first event was timed to start, there was a very fair number of spectators, which was considerably augmented during the afternoon. Following are details of the afternoon's sport up to the time of going to press : — lOOyus Junior Handicap. — First heat : R. S.' Mitchell, syds, 1; E. W. Cardale, scratch, 2. Time, 10|sec. Second heat: J. J. Nagle, 2yds, 1; J. Wilton, syds, 2. Time, 10|sec. Third heat : S. M. Wixrey, 6yds, 1; H. H. Daw&on, scratch, '2. Time, lOfsee. Final heat : Nagle 1, Wixrey 2, Dawson 3. Time, lO^ec. Half-mile Handicap (trophy presented by Messrs. L. Schatz and Co.).— W. R. C'arey, 40yds, 1; M. Burnett, 18yds, 2; W. H. Pollock, scratch, 3. The limit men led for half way, when Carey went to the 'front, and, making the pace very warm, won by 8 yards, Pollock being just beaten for second place. Time, 2min 2|sec (which beats the standard by 2| sec). 100 yds Public Schools' Championship. — First heat: S. Forbes (Clyde-quay), 1; C. Jensen (Terrace), 2. Time, 12sec. Second heat : T. Ames (Kaiwarra), 1 ; C. Smythe (Clyde-quay), 2. Time, 12sec. One-mile Walk (trophy presented by Messrs. Goodwin and Phelan). — P. Fitzgerald, 80yds, 1 ; J. T. Slack, 120 yds, 2 ; F. Claxton, scratch, 3. Won by' 50yds. Time, 7miu 43£ sec.
