GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL.
SPORTS GATHERING. The Garden Party given by the Lady Principal, staff, and pupils of the Girls' High School yesterday afternoon proved a successful and a very enjoyable function. The weather Was all ' that could be desired, and the grounds were in fine order. A large number of ladies/adorned in their summer finery, were in attendance, and. passed l _thejjf ternoon pleasantly at croquet^oi^injwatelung- the programme" .of- nthlelic*'events" in which the pupils competed. The fields for these contests were large, and the girls entered into the sport wiijh spirit, and seemed just as much at home in a sidesaddle bicycle race or a sack race as they were in a fifty yards sprint event. The school championship was again won by E. West, with a score of twelve points>, her sister, J. AVest, being next with ton points. Jupp's Band was in and enlivened^ the. proceedings ' with an excellent' programme of music. The arrangements' in connection with the gathering were excellently carried out, and reflected credit on the following omcials:— Judges,- Messr&. Batkin, J. W. Joynt, and, A. de B. After tea had been served an adjournment was made tp one of the tennis courts, where the prizes won during the afternoon and at 'a swimming carnival held some time ago were presented by Mrs. A. de B. Brandon. Prizes were presented by the following : — Mesdames Davidson, Dunning, Elder, Knox, and West, Miss Izard, Messrs. Brandon, Bethune, Gibbo, Joynt, Pollock, Sargent, Thompson, and'Drs. Faulk'e and M'fean.
