PARLIAMENT.
YESTERDAY'S SITTINGS. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. REFERENDUM BILL. After we went to press yesterday afternoon, the Attorney-General moved the second reading of the Referendum Bill. After o brief debate (summarised in another column) the Hon. W. Carncross moved that the Bill be read that day three months. This was carried by 22 votes to 7, and the Bill passed into oblivion. MINING COMPANIES. The Mining Companies Bill was recommitted, reported without amendment,, and put through its final stages. The Council rose at 5 p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House continued its sitting yesterday afternoon. ' PUBLIC WORKS. The Public Works Statement was debated on the second reading of the Public Worka Act Amendment Bill (as reported elesewhere). NEW* BILLS. The Workers Compensation for Accident Act Amendment Bill and the Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Bill were brought down by Governor's Message, and read a first time. They were then read a second time pro forma, and referred respectively to tho Labour Bills Committeo and the Native Affairs Committee. The House rose at 3.35 a.m.
