AN APPEAL TO CITIZENS. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— Would you kindly permit me t«r call the attention of citizens to our • annual self-denial appeal, which is observed! throughout the world for the purpose o{ raising funds on behalf of our missionary, sooial, and rescue work. The Salvation Army has, as an organ isation, given to the religious and phflaiv thropic worlds many examples of what great things can bo done by fixity of purpose and unity of effort, and among them none more striking than its annual week of prayer and self-denial. In 1903 the local corps raised £700 (a world's record for a corps appeal). This year we are hopeful of raising a like amount May I ask then, that once again our friends will show their appreciation ,ol our past effort by contributing towardr this great scheme for the amelioratioE of the physical needs of the poor^nd th» outcast in this country. In the City of Wellington we havo tin following institutions (iv addition to tlw work carried on by the Citadel Corps): —Paulina Rescue Home, Cuba-street, foi girls from the streets, Police Court, an<? gaols; Maternity Home, Thompson' street, for first offenders— the best in stitution of its kind in the colony j Girls' Home, Ellice-street, for orphan, neglected, and motherless girls ; Men't Shelter and Prison Gate Home, Buckle street. Might I ask that all who contribute will be good enough to see that the collector is authorised to raise fundj for the Salvation Army, by examination of book produced. — 1 am, etc., - - KENNETH M'LEOD, Staff Captain. 10, Jessie-street.
