GET DOWN TO CAUSES.

♦ A WELLINGTON CITIZEN RELATES AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE ABOUT CAUSE AND EFFECT. An Irish student attempted to refute a professor's lecture on " Catfse and Effect." He objected to tho axiomatic principle that Cause is always, first and Effect a consequence, and he illustrated his theory by citing one of his countrymen pushing a wheelbarrow. Whatever reasoning may be necessary to establish the Irishman's contention, one thing is certain — Causa always goes first in Kidney Disease, and the Effect follows. Bad backs from disordered kidneys are very ; common. No condition or class of humanity is exempt. Some cases are old and chronic and stubborn to remove. Some are first attacks, and easily disposed of by Doan's Backache Kidney Pills. If this fact could only be impressed upon our citizens what a world of suffering would be prevented. Perhaps the experience of a local citizen ■fl'ill convince you : — A lady residing at No.' 5, Staff ord-st., Wellington, says: — "Two and a-half years ago I used Doan's Backache Kidney Pills for kidney ailment, and they gave me permanent relief. They are real good pills for such troubles, and I can strongly recommend them to anybody who needs such a remedy. As a matter of fact they cured me permanently of backache, headathe, giddiness, and dizziness before the eyes. I've been in perfect health ever since using them. I obtained | the Pills at Fletcher's Pharmacy." Do not be satisfied with any imitation of Doan's Pills. Remember, it was Doan's Backache Kidney Pills which cured this lady, and if you suffer as she did you want the same remedy. Be sure that the word " Backache " is in the name. Doan's Backache Kidney Pills are sold by all chemists and storekeepers at 3s per box (six boxes 16s 6d), or will be posted on receipt of price by FosterM'Clellan Co., 76, Pitt-street, Sydney, N.S.W. But be sure they ARE Doan's.

Considerable interest is being taken in the success of the gold mining venture in progress at the head of the Ruamahanga River in the Mount Bruce district (writes the Opaki correspondent of the Mnsterton Age). A drive has been started, and it is believed, and certainly hoped, that a reef will be struck before long. The Canadian Parliament has appropriated £600 to the Salvation Army, to aid that body in carrying on its work among prisoners. At present nothing like systematic or well-organised work is done in this direction in Canada, except by the Salvation Army, and the grant just made has for its object the encouragement of this useful propaganda. ,
