Commenting upon a suggestion by its Melbourno correspondent that British trade unionists and labour members should appeal to their .Australian brethren against fho proposal to tax food, the Daily ChronkHo stales that tho Opposition in Canada and Australia aro using Mr. Chamberlain's policy as a stick to beat their Governments with. "It is incrediblo," says the Chromclo, "that tho Labour Party in Australia, in order to score in matters of local politics, should ask British labourers to pay more fpr the food that Australian products may benefit." Tho Times declares that Mr. Watson's proposal to prepares a scheme of proforenco, combined with tho attitudo of Sir Wilfrid Laurior, sweeps away all Lord Rosebery's verbal Bophistry. It is impessible, Tho Times adds, to call the scheme impracticable beforo it has been formulated. "If Mr. Peakin and Mr. Watson." The Times further states, "think trio movement worth taking up, thoro must bo moro in it than Lord Rosobery believes. '
