LAND BALLOTS.
REPLY' TO CRITICISM IN PARLIAMENT. [DV TELHGRAI'II — PKB63 ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. The members of tho Auckland Land Board this morning refuted tho statements mtido in Parliament by Messrs. Lawry, Kirkbride, Lang, nnd Witty concerning Matainata. It was stated Matamnta was nn absolute success as far as taking up tho land was concerned. Most of tho people were on tJio ground now, working industriously on their properties, and not more than three sections were unallotted. In regard to the statement fehat a man with £1500 a-nd six sons was debarred from compotrng for ti homestead on account of their capital being less than JB2OOO, such was not tho case. Every applicant was rigoronsly, examined, and ln«k of capital -had not'been the solo xeason of disqualification in any case. Answering the alloEfttion that persons entitled to take up Tokatoka land were debarred by the Commissioner, it was stated that thcro had never been a fairer ballot, nor wne where more consideration for settlers had been shown. Nothing had been done in bhe Tokatoka ballot which was an injustice to any one.
