THE NOVIK'S GALLANT FIGHT.
ONLY A RIDDLED HULL LEFT. LONDON, 24th August. Further particular are now available of tho damage caused to tho Russian cruiser Novik by tho Japanese warships Tsushima and Chitose. Tho Tsushima and Chitoso wero searching in heavy weathn in two directions. Tho former found the- Novik, off Koraik'ovsk, at 4.30 o'clock in the afternoon, and sent an ethergrtun to the Chitose. The Tsushima began an attack, in which tho Novik was hit frequently Eventually tho Novik was compelled to retire to an inner anchorage, enveloped in white omoko, and evidently on firo. Tho Tsushima wiu» hit through me bunkers at 6 o'clock, and as sno was leaking and listing badly, she was withdrawn for repairs, which wero soon completed. The Chitose meanwhile arrived, and watched tho harbour while the Tsushima guarded the Straits. Tli6 Novik's crew on Sunday apparently landod where the vessel was benched. Tho Chitose shelled her for an hour, and then steamed within 250 yards, when it was seen tho vessel liad been practically destroyed. , (Received August 25, 8.57 a.m.) LONDON, 24th August. Admiral Wireniun's report slates that a shell set fire to the Novik and exploded tho boilers and mnguzine. Tho crew ©reaped. ' Only the sheM-rkfcUed hull remains.
