Tho pieliminary enquiry by tho Maiine Board has concluded, and a full enquiry ordered. Pilot Dennis, in his report, states tho only reason ho can assign for (ho wreck is that he was suddenly takon ill. Consideration of his application for leave to lesign i 3i 3 postponed until after the enquiry. STATEMENT BY THE CAPTAIN. (Received June 25, 10.26 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. According to a statement by the captain of tho Australia, reud at tho preliminary enquiry, ho Mas standing on lhe*starbo:ird side of the bridge watching the lights. Ho considered tho coutoc was safe till shortly before the struck, when ho noticed tho steumiu's proximity to tho land. Before ho could turn or alter the course tho steamer grounded. The pilot exclaimed : "All my fault." The captain and second nwite assert that they noticed nothing unusual in tho manner or behaviour of the pilot to indicato that ho wus suffering in any way. THE INSURANCES. (Received Juno 25, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, 24th June. Tho Times states that ninety guineas per cent, has been paid on the wrecked Australia.
