Chiiholm) said that according to the Landa Department there was in that part of tho district through which it was propo.«ed to take the railway 150,000 acres of practically virgin Lush, having among other limbh- a plentiful supply of red pine, totara, and birch. On a low estimate of 8000 superficial feet per acre that meant twelve million superficial feet, which represented a value of £4,800,000 on trucks. Carrying rTiat over a period, of, «ay, fifty years, it mount an uniuial revenue for tho Railway Department of £30,000. Three city members who were present referred to the great possibilities of the district, nnd expressed themselves favourable to Iho line.
