Tho greatest stamp collection in the world is that of If err Philip yon Ferrary. He started collecting in tho sixties, and is believed to haw spent nearly a quarter of ft million in tho formation of the collection, and employ* two recretarien to look after it. Heir Ferrary includes in his collection a urnl and unused specimen of each stamp. Some of the purchases h«.vo boen notable. Tlio collection of Sir Daniel Cooper (a founder and the lir&t President of the Philatelic Society) was acquired by Jlwr Ferrary in 1870 fdr fiJOOO.
