THE MARLBOROUGH EXHIBITION.
SOMETHING CONCERNING ITS' SCOP-E. Now that tho contemplated Wellington Industrial Exhibition hn» been "hung up" for ft period of at loiuit twelvemonths, it might bo considered worth the while of those who have concerned themselves -with its arrangement to devote attention to Blenheim, which has arranged to hold an exhibition in September next. There- are rensoiuj—and good ones— for turning attention in the direction indicated. Marlborough ut a good customer of ours, and the great bulk of her export trade is donethrough this port, pai Ocularly in wool, meat, cereals, flax, timber, and fiah. Although to-day the distance between Picton and Wellington is represented by only a few hours' Meant, the time is surely coming when the dream of the present Minister for Customs and men of commere© miwt of necessity be ncxoniplislicd, ami a fiult ferry service be OHtablißltcd between the- two neurest coa.st-al points of tho two i&lands, which will reduce the length of steaming time by at lenst one half. Tho proposed exhibition is to open on the 17th h>eptember, nnd though it will last for ten day.s only, it i» contemplated thut within thnt timo a display can bo mado in every way creditable to the provinco and to the colony, for it is to bi.* interprovincial in ita character, as well as reprcfcenlalivo of tho products and industries of the Marlborougb district it-f-elf. Tho achtuno has been adequately financed by tho people of the district, and building* are in coureo of erection which will provido for 1400 ft of floor upaco, which will bo added to in tho way of annexes .'i« occasion requires. Tho situation of tho exhibition buildings is in tho very centre of the town, in the grounds known as Seymour-square. Th? iscTicdulc — a copy of which is before u»~- provides for a commercial division of a com pro heiisive cluu-ucler, nn educational and literary div Won, wientillo und nrt.t division, domestic work and cookery division, homo indushien division, and various "side" competition* of interest lo all rla.ss«s of the community. Already tho promoters have had applications lor three thousand feet of tho avuilnon* space, and tho cntrk.s do not close until tho Ist of August. This promises well for the general success uf the Fchemi', but in order to moke it a conspicuous nnd n'ltc-woitby display tho managers — the Marlborough Indu&trial AsMirintion — invite tbo co-operation of manufacturers and the public generally, with the aid of which it in hoped lo ninko tlio «nterpri.se one of llie bigyost vet carlied through outside the four cluef centres of tho colony.
