Sir George Clifford has been appointed to a. seat on the Board of Directors of the Now Zealand Shipping Company. An old resident in the colony, Mis. Puichaw, wife of the Rev. Dr. Purchas, died at Auckland yesterday inotning, aged 79 years. At Dunedin yesterctey the directors of the Union Steam Ship. Company presented Captain Carey with a handsome marble clock, on the occasion of his retirement from active service after 28 years in the company's employ. The Hon. G. M'Lean made tlio presentation. » Amongst the passengers who will arrive by the Mokoia from Sydney early this evening will bo tlio Rev. James Patcrson, who is returning from a holidny trip to America and 1 lie Old Country. Mr. Paterson's many friends will heartily welcome his return. Mr! and Mrs. L. Blundell and Miss Biundell, who havo been on v visit to Australia, also return by the same boat. Mr. H. A. Khkcnldio (son of Mr. John Kirkcaldie, Clumuum of the Wellington and Miuiawuiu Railway Company) was mairied at Wauganui to-day to Miss Kathleen Slubbs, daughter ofr Mr. A. Stubbs, Government Railway Inspector, formerly of Wellington. Tho bridcsniaidb were Miss Stubbs (si.ster of the bride) and Miss 0. Kirkcaldie (sister of the bridogroom).
