NOTES ON THE MEETING.
MELBOURNE, 31>=t January. Tho attendance increased considerably during the afternoon, especially of ladies. Pollock's great exertions in tho Mile Race- heavily handicapped him for the Quarter-mile, in which ho was blocked twice. He states that h« feels well, and expects to win the Half-mil* race on Monday. ROS.S feels collapsed after tlio 'JJhreeniilo Walk. Simpson ia improving rUpidly. Laurie slipped in jumping twice, mid this somewhat \innr>rvcd him. Smith Avon tho Hurdles magnificently, and way greatly applauded. The crowd was absolutely impartial. None- of the competitors competed at the A.N.A. sports on Saturday night. On Sunday tho visitors were present at a picnic as the guests of tho Victorian Association.
