NEW ABERDEEN LINER.

On 11th August, Messrs. Alexander Stephen and Sous, Limited, launched from their yard at Dinthouso, Glasgow, a lurgo twin screw steamer for the Aberdeen Lino, of Messrs. George Thompson and Co. Aberdeen and London. Tho steamer, which is to trade between Londbit, South Africa, and Australia, will bo tho largest of the "Aberdeen" fleet, being 475 ft in length, with a beam of 55ft, a depth of 33ft, moulded to upper deck, nnd a gross register tonnage of about 7000 tons. Messrs. Thompson have never departed from tho clipper stem, which, besides being nn element of safety, gives tho vessel a very smart and complete appearance. Her figurehead is carved to represent a M'arrior of ancient Greece. She hns been constructed under special survey at Lloyd's for their 100 Al class, also under the supervision of the Board of Trudo for their passenger and emigrant require-, ments, and tt> tite special instructions of tho British Admiralty Transport Department; while- her, outfit and scantlings are, in some, of tho more important matters, considerably above tho requirements of the various societies. She is built on tho principle of the cellular doublo bottom, subdivided into twelve compurtmonts by thwnrUihip and oentrnl foro nnd aft watertight divisions. She hns large stowage capacity for Cargo, nnd for safety the hull is divided into nine watertight compartinente. Several of the cargo holds havo been insulated by the builders for tho earring* of frozen meat nnd fruit. These, chambers are cooled to different degrees of temperature by refrigerating machinery and coolers. A sister vessel is on the stocks of Messrs. Stephen's yard, and when both these steamers nre on service they will bo a very valuable addition to this well-known ileet, Every voyage theso vessels muko from London to Sydney, via ToncrifFe, Capetown, and Melbourne, and liomo, via Melbourne, Albany, Durban, Capetown, nnd Ton*rilfo, a distance is stenmed of close- upon 26,000 nautical miles, and ns they nre expected to develop a speed of fully 14 knots loaded, the bunker capacity hns been specially considered and ample reserve arranged for. The- facilities for working the cargo are up to dale. Tho vessel is to havo two ninats, and is to be propelled by twin Beta of engines, having cylinders 27in, 45in, nnd 7Sin dinmeter, with a stroke of 61in. Tho installation of electric light is in duplicate, and the machinery 6i)nco is replete with all the latest improved auxiliary pumps und other machinery.
