SUDDEN DEATH OF MR. J. A. N. SALMON.

A well-known citizen, Mr. James Alox. N. Salmon, was found dead sitting in a chair his residence at 4.30 o'clock ou Saturday afternoon. Ah Mr. Salmon had a cut over his left eye, received on Thursday night, about which he had made several conflicting statements, it \vn» thought that tho injury' had something to do ' with his death. But enquiries made by the District Coroner have gone to show that Mr. Salmon hod been medically attended for heart trouble. After consultation with Dr. Logan, Mr. Ashcroft was satisfied that Mr. Salmon's death was caused by heart failure, and that therefore no inquest was necessary. In his several statements about tho cut over his eye, the deceased said on one occasion that he had fallen against a fence, and on another occasion he said he had been knocked down by a mun or a I woman, ho could not say which, and bis Eockets gone through, but tho money in is pocket had not been touched. The police have made enquiries, but failed to verify the statement about the attack. The deceased wns particularly well known in cricketing circles, having been a representative player in his time, and he was the brother of another one-timo player, Mr. W. J. Salmon. The deceased, who leaves two sona and v daughter, was about 58 year* of age, and up to some two years ago occupied the position of managing clerk in the office of Messrs. Chapman and Tripp.
