THE WELLINGTON INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
The City Council dealt last night with a report from its Exhibition Committee. Tllo Committee reported that it had carefully considered the question of the proposed bridge from the Town Hall across Cuba-street and Jcrvout-quay, and recommended that the application be granted, subject to any nooeHsary conditions to bo determined by the City Engineer; and to on alteration being mode to tho access of the bridge) such acoe«A to be by means of a stairway or stairway* under tho portico, instead of from the Town Hall floor; also, that the Industrial AsHooiation bo granted tho uoe of section No. 3, next the Central Fire Brigade Station, and tho land adjoining the Wellington Rowing Club, including part of JervoiA-quay to within 6ft of the railway line, provided the City Solicitor udvioea that the Council has power to grant tl>o land asked for. Councillor Nathan objected to tho construction of an overhead bridge. Ho w«s anxious to see the Exhibition » success, but he objected to the Council giving carte blanche to the Exhibition Committee to uso the Town Hall until there was a proper plan beforo tho Council. Councillor Izard objected to the Town Hall being lmnded over to tho Exhibition Committee, unless tho conditions on which the use of the building whs to be given were reduced to writing. Councillor Lake, Owvirmim of the Council Committee, said the interest* of the citizens In regard to the Town Hall would bo fully considered. The report was adopted. The Mn-yor recommended tho Council's Committee to at one* have » deed drawn up relating to the us© of the Town Hall for the purposes of the Exhibition.
