MINING NEWS.
THE WAIHI REEFS. [BT TELEGRAPH — PRES3 ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, 22nd July. Information has been received that at the Waihi Grand Junction mine a borehole, which was being put down from a chamber at the 500 ft level, penetrated forty feet into a reef, and that the first assay gave an average result of £8 10s per ton. This development is of the Utmost importance, as it proves that the Waihi reef system is continued into the Grand Junction area below the lowest point hitherto worked in the latter com- , pany's property. DUNEDIN, 22nd July. At the adjourned meeting of shareholders of the Meg and Annie Gold Dredging Company it was decided to go into voluntary liquidation. There was no opposition from those present, but it was pointed out that some of the proxies were against the proposal. The response to a suggested levy was so limited that the Chairman said there was no other course but to liquidate. A return of 250z of gold for 116 hours' work is reported from the Amikitia dredge.
